This second season of Hana Yori Dango picks up right after Domyoji leaves for New York. After confessing to Domyoji, Makino has not spoken to him for a year. Rui and the other members of F4 try and help Makino meet Domyoji again by going to New York for the christmas holidays. Though F4 and Makino meet Domyoji again, he has become a completely different person, and so they leave for Japan.

Some time later, Domyoji's mother annouces that they will be returning to Japan. There, they hold a giant super-rich and classy birthday party for Domyoji and announce something very important. Domyoji, like in the first season, is engaged to a rich girl and heir. The only difference is that they are to be wed soon. What will Makino do?

On the side, Rui begins to fall in love with Makino... will this become a love... square?

Antique Bakery (西洋 骨董 洋菓子店 ,Seiyō Kottō Yōgashiten?, "Western Antique Cake-Shop") is a manga by Fumi Yoshinaga depicting the lives of four men who work in a small bakery. It was published in Japan by Shinshokan and in English by Digital Manga Publishing. The series won the 2002 Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo manga[3] The manga was adapted as a Japanese TV drama, with the title Antique or Antique Cake Store, that was broadcast on Fuji TV in 2001, a TV anime, airing on July 3, 2008 on noitaminA, and a Korean live-action movie.

Main characters

Keisuke (or Keiichirō) Tachibana (橘 圭一郎 ,Tachibana Keiichirō)

The owner of the Antique Bakery, as well as a waiter. He was childhood friends with Chikage, the son of his family's live-in housekeeper. He was also Ono's classmate in school and harshly rejected Ono's love confession. He seems to be the only man whom Ono finds attractive, but who is not attracted to Ono in return. Tachibana comes from a rich family. He was kidnapped when he was a child. The one thing he remembers about his abductor is that he loved cake and fed him the cakes he bought every single day. Although Tachibana was rescued, his abductor was never found. After this ordeal, his family became overly protective of him. He feels obliged to play the "good boy" for his relatives because he does not want them to worry about him. As a result of his experiences, Tachibana has no taste for sweets. He is also fluent in French.

Yusuke Ono (小野 裕介 ,Ono Yūsuke)

The pâtissier, a renowned chef who has been fired from many bakeries because of his "Demonic Charm": whenever he is attracted to a man, that man — whether gay or straight — suddenly becomes irresistibly attracted to him in return. His coworkers will inevitably fight over him, and Ono will wind up fired again. This stemmed from when he was in high school, when Tachibana turned him down. He went into a gay bar, and suddenly he became a very popular lover. He has said his type is older men. He is also scared of women, and is fluent in French as well.

Eiji Kanda (神田 えいじ ,Kanda Eiji)

Eiji is Ono's apprentice, as well as other help in the kitchen. He is a former street punk who was picked up off the street and reformed by a boxing coach. He trained to be a boxer, and was a top fighter. However, due to his detached retinas, he had to give up boxing. He saw a "Help Wanted" ad in the bakery's window, and decided to join. He has a huge sweet tooth. He holds Ono in very high regard, calling him his "Master", due to his skill in making sweets. Over time they have developed more of a father-son relationship than that of a master and apprentice.

Chikage Kobayakawa (小早川 千影 ,Kobayakawa Chikage)

Chikage is Tachibana's childhood friend. His family works at the Tachibana house. He was sent by the Tachibana family to watch out for his friend. Chikage is trained to become a waiter by Tachibana. However, he is very klutzy and has a hard time. He wears sunglasses all of the time, as his eyes are weak. He has a crush on Ono, though he thinks Ono doesn't feel the same way (on the contrary, Ono is in love with Chikage). He is very shy and polite. He calls Tachibana "Young Master" after the game "Ōoka Echizen (大岡越前)".

The first scene we see Joe Lorkowski (Alan Arkin) banging on a bedroom door trying to wake Norah Lorkowski (Emily Blunt) to wake up, tell her she is late for work. Norah unwillingly wakes up and gets ready.

Then we meet Rose Lorkowski (Amy Adams) who was dressed in a cleaning outfit with the company name on the shirt. Rose was cleaning up a mess left behind by high school kids who are having a house/pool party at a big house. Rose stares at the kids playing outside as she day dreams, she even tries to say something to one of the kid coming in to grab a drink, but the kid rushes off and does not even notice Rose.

Just when Rose was done with her duties, she goes to report to the lady who owns the house, and the lady, Heather, recognizes Rose from the start. Turns out they were both on the cheerleading squad back in high school, and Heather said she was always jealous of Rose because she was the captain of the squad and was also dating the star quarterback. When Heather asks about what Rose is doing now, Rose stutters and says that she is cleaning houses as a part time thing, and her real job is in real estate. But turns out Heather is also in real estate, and when asked who Rose is with right now, Rose just said that she has not yet decide who to go with. They then exchanged information and Heather invites Rose to attend her baby shower in a couple of weeks. Rose agrees and rushes off.


Next we see Norah working in a burger restaurant owned by some Asians. Norah does not seem too enthusiastic and she tripped white delivering the burgers to the customers at the tables. Norah was immediately fired as she threw her apron to the ground and storms out the restaurant with Asian lady yelling at her and chasing her out. We then see this scene in slow motion with Rose taking trash out and Norah storming out the restaurant, depicting their miserable job and life. Just to mention here, the setting of this is suburban America, possibly in the Midwest.

Next scene we see a guy sitting in a van outside the gun shop. He breathes out and takes a shotgun bullet from a box and puts it in his pocket and walks into the gun shop. Inside, he asks about hunting and says he would like to see a certain shotgun. They owner was very friendly and gives the man a gun that he thinks would fit him perfectly. While the man examines the gun, he secretly loads the gun with the bullet he had from his pocket, and goes on to point the under his chin and blows his own head off.


Then we see Mac (Steve Zahn) as a detective taking notes about the incident at the gun shop. He was disgusted with the scene, which had brain matters all over the store. Then comes the cleanup crew, who seems to be privately owned because they took cash from the store clerk themselves. Mac sees this as the guys professionally cleans up the mess.

Mac then goes and meets Rose at a motel room, as it is their regular place to meet up and have sex.

Rose says goodbye to her son Oscar and she warns Norah not to tell him scary stories before he sleeps. Rose goes takes off to go on a date with Mac, at the motel.

To add a note here, Norah and Rose have this thing about old black and white movies. They watch old movies on television every night, especially scenes with waitresses because their mother was in one of the movie one time. The mother had killed herself while the two girls were very young, but she was really beautiful and the director even gave her a line to say in a movie even though she was just a waitress. Rose and Norah never know the name of that movie, so they are determined to find out.

Rose says that she needs money because her son Oscar keeps getting in trouble at school and got kicked out just recently. Rose mentions that she needs to send Oscar to private school so is wondering if Mac knows anyway she can make some money. This is when Mac mentions about the crime-scene cleanup crew that makes a lot of money in cash by just doing almost exactly the same thing that Rose does daily. So that gets Rose to start thinking as she proceeds the very next day to post an ad in the newspaper about her business. Sunshine Cleaning, she calls it, with a logo of the sun that her son Oscar drew.

Within a few days, Rose gets a call from a man demanding a cleanup job. Rose asks Norah to come along since she is out of work as well. They arrive at an old apartment complex with the landlord there giving them the keys and showing them the room where an old couple had a bad fight, and the wife shot the husband in the bath tub. Rose and Norah’s only equipment was the ones that Rose uses on cleaning houses, so they were scrubbing blood off the wall with toothbrush and Windex. They got the job done, and the landlord happily pays them five hundred dollars. The two girls jumped up and down and drove off.

In the meantime, since Oscar has no more school, he stays home with his grandfather, Joe and listens to him talk about business plans. Joe took some popcorn stash and tries to sell in bunch to a local candy store, but the store clerk keeps refusing to buy. While they are chatting and negotiating, Oscar goes to a little girl at the store and tells her that he read somewhere that popcorn makes people invincible. The girl does not believe him but walks away and then asks her mother to get her some popcorn. That is when the mother comes and interrupts Joe and the store clerk and demands some popcorn. Then we see Joe shaking Oscar’s hands outside the store complimenting Oscar for being a great salesman because they just sold all their popcorn units to this store.


As for Rose and Norah, the next job came calling at an old house because some crazy lady finally killed herself and left a big mess. The only thing that Rose and Norah was asked to do was to throw everything out. The house is covered with rotten food and decomps. It was a tough task but they still took it and did a great job. In the house, while cleaning, Norah found a purse that was hidden inside the couch. Inside the couch was the wallet of the lady that killed herself and a lot of pictures of a young girl stacked together, with the age of each particular picture of the girl written on the back. Instead of throwing the stuff away like Rose advices, Norah hid it and wants to take it to the girl inside the picture.

Rose decided after this job is that they need to restock on supplies and cleaning products, so they went to a professional. In the store, the storekeeper is called Winston, and he only had one arm as he was building model airplanes since the business is slow. Rose was pointed to where she needs to get all her equipments when another man walks in. The man was heard saying that he cannot believe some nonprofessionals are trying to compete with his business right now. He also said they probably do not even know the rules about biohazard and all the restrictions and laws about this job. Winston immediately understands that Rose and Norah are the ones the man was talking about, so since he took a liking of Rose, he guides her to a bunch of seminars and classes and exams to the license of this line of work, and Rose kindly accepts the offer.

We then see Rose calling Mac at his house when a kid picks up the phone. Rose is just asking Mac more about these crime scene information but Mac tells her that she cannot call the house since his wife might pick up the phone. Rose somehow still believes that Mac is trying to leave his wife and come to her.

Norah then tracks down the girl in the pictures and finds out where she lives and follows the girl. The girl’s name is Lynn and she works as a nurse in a blood bank, and Norah lies to Lynn that she is only coincidentally following her and would like to give blood. The two of them quickly became friends.

The next job, Rose pulls up in a van and is looking more professional than they were before. They have all the right gear and equipment this time. But they see a grandma outside a house in shock as she tries to tell them that her husband died in the basement and she just calls them to come clean up. Rose asks Norah to go deal with the body and the mess while Rose decides to sit down with the grandma until her son comes to pick her up. While sitting down, Rose cries with the grandma, as Rose decides that she wants to be loved too, and not just meeting in a motel room weekly to a man that would never leave is wife.

Rose goes home that night and Mac was at her house waiting for her. Rose tells him about what she wants to do with her life and goes on to break up with Mac. Mac leaves after he gives Rose a business card holder as a gift.

Next we see Norah and Lynn out enjoying their time together, and Norah takes Lynn to a place where she goes when she wants to get lost and vent. They go to a bridge under the railroad tracks and feel the rush of the train when it passes by. Norah is seen crying and flashing back to discovering her mother’s body in the bathroom while she was little. After that, they went to a diner and Norah decides to come clean and give the purse to Lynn and said she probably wants to know what happens to her own mother. Not only was Lynn not appreciative of this gesture, she was furious. Lynn was so mad that Norah had lied to her, and she also said that her mother was a drug-using alcoholic who she had not kept in touch with for years because she refused to be any part of it. Lynn storms off and asks Norah to never call again.

Grandpa Joe then is seen waiting in a parking lot with Oscar. Joe’s new business plan is to buy some shrimps from the deliveryman for a cheap price and then sell them to restaurants for a higher price. But unfortunately, the shrimp is hard to keep fresh and all the restaurants refused to buy it from him. Joe had no choice but to keep the shrimp in his bathtubs, and stank up the entire house.

The next day Rose decides to attend that baby shower that Heather is hosting, but they got a call for the next job. Rose tells Norah to take care of it herself and drops Oscar off at Winston’s store to watch over him for a bit. Norah keeps telling Rose to not attend but Rose insists that she needs to prove to all her high school friends that she has made something for herself, and she has to go.


At the baby shower, Rose is questioned about her line of work, and was looked down very much by her peers. But she did not care and was actually really excited about her life and her job and her family, so Rose left the baby shower midway.

But While Norah is cleaning up the house on her own; she manages to drop the candle onto the curtains and could not put out the fire as she kept on screaming for Rose to help. By the time Rose got to the site, firemen had already arrived, but the house was burnt to the ground. Rose and Norah argued and they said this job is over, as Rose needs to use all the money they made to pay off the insurance.


Rose then goes to pick up Oscar at Winston’s at a really late hour. Winston was a very sweet man and did not mind taking care of Oscar. Rose begins to cry and vent about her life and how difficult it is to be her. Winston comforted her, and Rose invites Winston to attend Oscar’s birthday next week. Winston complied.

At the birthday party, Winston brought cool gifts to Oscar and Oscar was mesmerized by the whole event and the whole crowd, he was a very happy kid.

At night, Rose goes to the van, and turns on the walkie-talkie and begins to talk as if her mother is on the other side. Rose tells the mother that she is selfish and stupid for leaving them, and that she would have been great to be around because she is now missing out on a lot of great stuff that’s happening in their lives.

That very same night, as Rose is getting ready to sleep, she catches the glimpse of the TV that is playing a waitress scene. She immediately notices its her mother and she calls Norah to wake up and watch the same channel. As they had both expected the mother was so beautiful on television, as they both cried and watched that short little scene when the mother says her one-liner.


The very next day, as Rose is getting ready to work as a house cleaning lady, grandpa Joe stops her and said that he has a new business partner. He said that Winston and him talked during the birthday party and he has decided to sponsor their business as crime scene cleanup company. Even though Norah is taking on her own job elsewhere, Joe says that he is the new partner. As they got the call for the new job, Joe was hesitant about walking into the house because of the smell. Rose turns and tells him that he will get used to it. Joe puts on is mask and walks in.

t’s the end of the college semester, and James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) is opening up to his girlfriend, claiming that he is starting to fall for her. During an “end of the year” party, the girlfriend breaks up with him (they had only been going out for 11 days). James is heartbroken, but his friends Eric and Brad cheer him up by reminding him about their big summer Europe trip. Later on, James is at lunch with his parents when he asks him for more money for the trip; James’s dad reveals that he took a smaller job, and that he is making less money now. So basically, there’s no way James can afford this trip, since he’s also trying to save money so he can go to grad school and get an apartment in New York with Eric. Eric and Brad are bummed James can’t come to Europe anymore, but Eric cheers him up again by giving a sack full of joints to last him the summer. He gives the joints to James (and even smokes one) with both of their parents clearly watching.

Suddenly desperate, James begins looking for a summer job. After many failed interviews, he stumbles upon Adventureland, a local amusement park where his immature old friend Tommy Frigo works; the manager Bobby (Bill Hader) and wife Paulette (Kristen Wiig) give James a job on the spot without even looking at his resume. Despite wanting to work on the rides, James automatically gets put to work in game booths since, according to Bobby, he looks like a “games man”. Joel (Martin Starr) gives James a tour around the park. He tells him about the ridiculous work policies and shows him how most of the park’s games are rigged – for example, there’s a game where you have to knock the hats off a mannequin by throwing balls at it. Problem is, half of the hats are glued onto the mannequins. They also have dented basketball hoops, the “Win a Goldfish” game even though half of the fish are already dead, etc. Another annoying work factor that James seems to notice is how many times the park plays “Amadeus”. He constantly jokes that they play this song 20 times a day.

During his first day, a customer tries to con James while he’s working the ring toss booth. Even though James clearly saw the man’s kid climb over and put a ring onto a bottle, the man demands his kid gets the top prize: one of those humongous stuffed pandas. When the man threatens James at knifepoint, another games worker Em Lewin (Kristen Stewart) steps in and ends up giving the man a panda. James panics since he thinks he’s gonna get fired (all the other employees told him to NEVER give out the biggest prizes), but Em tells him not to worry since he could’ve gotten stabbed. That night, after the park closes, all the employees smoke outside the park and bullshit about the day. Em offers James a ride home, who immediately says yes to avoid a ride with Frigo (who makes crude remarks and punches James in the nuts the whole movie). After James and Em smoke a joint, James thanks her for the ride and leaves. Afterwards, Em pulls into a local bar for reasons unknown.


The next day, Joel shows happy panic when telling James that Lisa P. (Margarita Levieva) is working at Adventureland again. Basically, Lisa P. is the gorgeous, “most popular” girl working at the park. She works in rides with her friend Kelly; they both constantly dance sexually in front of their ride to lure customers in. She constantly complains that her rich parents don’t give her enough money and she is almost forced to work here – as the story progresses, we learn that majority of the people working in Adventureland have similar backgrounds. Somewhere during this, James is introduced to Mike Connell (Ryan Reynolds), the park’s maintenance man. He has a “cool” older-guy persona and has even played in a band with Lou Reed. That night, Em throws a party at her parent’s house. After some drinking and a few joints, James and Em go for a swim in her pool; they flirt a little before Em gets out – James waits a little bit to get out because he obviously has a boner. James and Em talk more, where it’s revealed that Em hates her wig wearing step-mother. After the party ends, an alone Em calls Mike to come over. This is where we learn Em has been fooling around with the already married Mike. James (still oblivious to Em and Mike’s secret) takes the next few days to get closer to Em. One night, they hang out at the same bar Em was at earlier in the movie. Through his talks about how he got his heart broken a month earlier (the 11-day relationship), Em learns James is still a virgin. It’s also revealed that Em is only home for the summer, since she goes to NYU. During this time, Mike walks in with his wife – the awkward tension between him and Em is completely obvious. Mike’s band always plays at this bar, hence the reason why Em was here earlier. James and Em leave the bar early; before going home, they park underneath the bridge to smoke a joint. Instead, James makes a move and they kiss.

Over the next few days, James spends most of his work time getting closer to Em. This prompts James to admit to Mike that he’s falling in love with Em. Later, Mike and Em have another “encounter”, where he takes her to his mom’s basement to get drunk. Here, Mike tells Em what James told him. Some time later, James and Em go to a club with Joel and Em’s friend Sue (Paige Howard aka Ron Howard’s daughter). Joel and Sue end up getting hammered and make out in the backseat of Em’s car. Em admits to James that there’s a lot of shit in her life right now and asks him if they can “take it slow”. James reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, Joel tries to follow up with Sue the day after. He gives her a book that he enjoyed – unfortunately, Sue rejects Joel’s friendship for the crappy reason that she is Catholic, and Joel is Jewish. When Em (who is also Jewish) learns of this, she angrily confronts Sue in front of everyone, claiming she doesn’t deserve Joel and that they’re no longer friends.


James, now unsure about his relationship with Em, starts flirting with Lisa P. As they flirt, James asks to push a button on the ride Lisa works on – this ends up breaking the ride, and Mike is called in to fix the catastrophe James made. James then asks Mike if he should ask Lisa out; Mike tells him yes (obviously thinking about his status with Em). James takes Lisa out to dinner, but clearly wants it to be known that nobody should know about this date; this doesn’t go well once Frigo shows up outside the restaurant, wanting to see if James actually asked Lisa out. At the end of the date, James and Lisa smoke a joint and kiss. James comes home to find out that he missed a call from Em, making him feel guiltier about his kiss. James learns that Em wanted to apologize about the “taking it slow” talk. After this, their relationship gets back on track.

One night, James Em and Joel decide to eat weed cookies at work. James tries getting away with only eating half, but is forced to eat the whole thing when Bobby and Paulette ask what they’re eating. The rest of the night is a hilarious, weed-fueled trip for the three of them. After a ride on the bumper cars, James goes back to work at his games booth, the Horse Race game. Bobby and Paulette, who notice the gibberish comments James makes to the customers, ask him if he’s high. Paulette points out that James’s eyes are bloodshot, and asks him if he’s been crying. Bobby eventually takes over James’s booth and calls the next round of horse races (which is hysterical) while Paulette watches on saying “This is how we met.” Meanwhile, James joins Em and Joel at the game with the mannequins wearing the hats. The three (who are all still very high) goof off and knock one of the mannequins down. One of the customers realizes the game is rigged, jumps into the booth, and punches the giggling Joel. When he threatens to hurt Em, James steps in and punches the customer. The customer’s friend chases James out of the booth; fortunately, Bobby comes to James’s aid and threatens the customer with an aluminum bat. A second later, Bobby calmly goes back to work as if nothing happened.

The next day, James is shocked to learn that Joel quit after he was punched. After talking with Joel, James gains the courage to tell Em about his date (and kiss) with Lisa. Em is obviously stunned, but also thanks him for actually telling her. That night, Em talks with Mike in his mom’s basement - Em tells Mike that she can’t see him anymore because she’s falling for James. Meanwhile, James learns through people about the sexual relationship Em and Mike have. When he calls Em’s house looking for her, her parents say that Em told them she was going to hang out with James tonight. Now very worried, James and Frigo drive over to Mike’s mothers house (Lisa told James about the rumor that Mike would take girls to his mom’s basement to get them drunk and fool around). Sure enough, they pull up just as Em is walking out of the house crying. James discovers the truth, calls himself an idiot for trusting Em, and leaves her there standing in the street.


The next day at work, James tells Lisa about Em and Mike. James and Lisa eventually go on another date, where James tells Lisa to keep the “Em situation” a secret. She agrees. However, Em goes to work the next day to find that everyone now knows about her and Mike. After the nasty “slut” looks becomes enough, Em gets extremely upset and quits on the spot. She goes home that night and pours herself a drink in front of her parents’ friends. Em starts talking about how things were better before her step-mother showed up. The furious step-mother tries taking Em’s drink away from her; Em tries pulling her step-mother’s wig off in retaliation. Em’s dad takes Em into the backyard, asking what’s wrong with her.

After James hears that Em quit, he learns that Lisa told one friend, which eventually spread until everyone knew. A furious James goes on a drinking binge and eventually starts driving around the city drunk and high. He barely misses getting into a car accident, but ends up slamming into a tree. The next morning, he wakes up to his mom banging on the car door. Somehow, he was able to drive back to his parents’ house; however, the front of the car is destroyed and there’s a plant lodged in the front right tire. His furious parents learn he was drinking, and he’s forced to use ALL of his earned money to fix the car. In a glimmer of hope for James, his college friends finally return from their European vacation. However, James’s hopes are shattered when Eric reveals to him that he can’t move to New York anymore since he got accepted into the Harvard business program.


During the final week of summer (before Adventureland closes for winter renovations), James thanks Bobby and Paulette for the summer job. Bobby asks if James will be back to work next summer, which James just replies again, “Well, thanks for the job opportunity anyway.” James hangs out with Frigo and Joel, asking what to do now. Joel tells a story about how they screwed up Herbert Melville’s (author of Moby Dick) obituary by calling him “Henry” Melville. James claims that he would be honored if he was Melville, and realizes what he has to do. Some time later, Em has moved back to New York (remember that she goes to school at NYU?). During a rainy night, Em sees James rolling through the city – James has decided to live out his dream and move to New York anyway. Em invites James up to her place and asks him what he’s going to do now – James just wants to find a job so he can make some money, then see where it goes from there. When drying his rainy clothes, Em offers James her old work shirt to wear, which he turns down saying “I never want to see that fucking shirt again.” The two end up share a passionate kiss, and they realize how much they love each other.
