Synopsis
Osawa Eriko is installed as head of the First Investigative Division’s newly established Special Crimes Unit upon her return from America. Her subordinates are nothing but trouble makers within the police force who are capable but have behavioural and personality problems. Then one day, a corpse with a charred upper torso is found within the jurisdiction of their unit. The investigation begins but her subordinates are a bunch of misfits and have no solidarity. Because alcohol with close to 90% alcoholic content is found at the scene, it is thought that it resulted from the combustion of that alcohol. However, Eriko passes the victim’s hair to the crime lab and the DNA test determines that the victim has a constitution in which alcohol cannot be consumed. She begins her FBI-trained profiling
Character Descriptions
Amami Yuki as Osawa Eriko
Head of the First Investigative Division’s Special Crimes Unit. She is on the fast track to promotion but suddenly goes to study in America. That is effectively a demotion. During that time, she learns the latest investigation techniques at the FBI and returns to Japan but no one knows about it. It seems that she had some sort of feud with her father in the past.
Takenouchi Yutaka as Nodate Nobujiro
Eriko’s contemporary. He is a National Police Agency career official who is a central figure in the Metropolitan Police Department and also respected by the top brass. But he has a wild appearance, a weakness for women and makes remarks that border on sexual harassment. However, he understands Eriko well.
Toda Erika as Kimoto Mami
Eriko’s subordinate. She was formerly from the crime lab and is an expert at information gathering but because she finds it hard to wake up in the morning and does things at her own pace, she is regarded as a non-conformist and ends up in the Special Crimes unit. She has no interest in other people and doesn’t dress up even though she is of the age. She is also eccentric in her speech and conduct but is amenable by nature.
Tamayama Tetsuji as Katagiri Takuma
Eriko’s subordinate. He is cool, smart, stylish and the best at pistol shooting and jukendo. He goes home on time, won’t work on his off days and draws a clear line between work and his private life. He doesn’t display much interest in work but it is because of some incident in the past. Nodate transfers him to Eriko’s team because he knows about it.
Mizobata Junpei as Hanagata Ippei
Eriko’s subordinate. He’s had a strong sense of justice since young and courage is his only redeeming virtue. He often says silly things that makes Eriko tear her hair out. Also, he says “can do” for things that he cannot do which puts those around him in a fix. He tends to go around in circles but is honest.
Kichise Michiko as Narahashi Reiko
A medical examiner at the crime lab. Mami’s former superior. She is beautiful and single. Because she is popular with men, there are rumours that she dates a different man every time but legend has it that none have won her heart. She sometimes makes remarks that are nonsensical and indiscreet, causing those around her to be on tenterhooks.
Kobayashi Kendo as Iwai Yoshiharu
Eriko’s subordinate. He is macho, good at combat sports such as judo and kendo, and has been branded a violent cop who is quick with his fists. He is manly but appears to be gay from his behaviour.
Nukumizu Yuichi as Yamamura Keisuke
Eriko’s subordinate. A veteran detective formerly from the Community Safety Division who has the nickname “Otoshi no yama-san” but it is only because he has many lost articles. He has a theory that “The ability to force confessions is amazing” and another theory that “There are many lost articles because people are careless.” He dislikes Eriko and opposes her. His conviction that criminals will definitely be arrested is second to none.
